OUR FARM

Farm pic hereIn 2000 my husband and I decided we were tired of living in the big city of Dallas, Texas. We began to go to my family farm in Upshur County in East Texas each weekend and build fences and try to recapture the land from the forest. Nothing had been done on the land for over 40+ years since I left it as a teenager.

After a year of weekend jaunts we made the move permanent in 200l. As we were talking to a family member about how to clear the underbrush he suggested goats and he knew just the right person to talk to. You have heard this story a million times before, just a few goats to help clear the land, but after I saw the Boers I fell in love with them. The first trip I bought a buck and 5 does, two weeks later 11 more, and the rest is history.

Today we have a herd of 55 nannies and 3 bucks. We thought we would have a relaxed life in the country, but we traded our “hectic city life” for “Life on the farm with Boer goats”. This is definitely a more time consuming job than being a nurse, but I love it. We have 3 Great Pyrenees dogs as predator protection as we have coyotes all around our 65 acres here in the Piney Woods of East Texas.

Goat pic hereThis land has been in my family for over 100 years and my husband and I are enjoying our new life here.

We are striving to raise quality replacement stock, both full blood and percentages and show wethers.

I am also available to take in bottle babies for anyone that might be interested. I will raise them to weaning and return them, for a fee, or keep them if you don’t want them back.

In October of 2005 I received training in Artificial Insemination for goats and am available to provide that service.

We love to have visitors so call or e-mail to come by and visit. We are almost always home.
